How to Get the most out of your REIA membership Part 1

I’m able to make over 10X my REIA membership with this one membership benefit!  It’s a very important part of being a REIA member, the networking at the meetings.  I can attribute a lot of my success to attending REIA meetings for the education and networking.  Let’s talk about ways to improve our networking: Know why you are at the meeting, dress the part, be a broken record, trade business cards, and social media.  Below we will dive into each topic deeper.

Know why you are at the meeting before you show up to the meeting.  This is important because it’ll give you a goal for the meeting.  We may have multiple reasons to attend, but we should have one main goal for each meeting so we can focus on achieving it.  Sometimes I’m at the meeting for the speaker’s education, sometimes it’s to meet new people, and at times I have a property I want to sell.  This helps us focus our attention in conversations toward this one goal.  It’s recommended to get there early and stay late to have as many genuine conversations as possible.  What’s your why for attending REIA?

Dress the part is about being YOU.  If you are going straight from your W2 job that requires you to wear a branded shirt I suggest bringing a shirt to change into.  We don’t want your W2 topic to distract from you being an investor.  These days for me it’s wearing my neon yellow shirt which reads “MY Wife BUYS MOBIE HOME,” but I haven’t always been the guy in yellow.  Before my famous T-shirt, I would commonly wear a Ninja Turtles shirt because I truly like the Ninja Turtle and I would stand out at a meeting where everyone dressed business casual. I did the opposite when I went to a meeting where everyone had an old T-shirt on, I’d wear a nice, collared shirt so I’d stand out.  Standing out is part of my personality and it’s comfortable, if it’s not comfortable for you then I suggest you dress like the personality of the meeting, so you feel comfortable.  Networking and branding yourself won’t work unless you are comfortable with what you’re wearing and branding.
