When You Start Feeling Sick… 🤒

Flu season is upon us, and many people will face that pivotal moment when they feel an itch in the back of their throat or a slight tickle signaling an impending cold. What do you do when that happens?

- Do you stop working?

- Do you use this time as an excuse to not get things done?

- Or do you take proactive steps to maintain your health and productivity?

Some people might, on a Tuesday, feel like they're getting sick and inadvertently manifest it into a full-blown illness by saying things like:

- "I know I’m getting sick."

- "When I feel this itch in my throat, I always get sick for a week and can’t do anything."

This kind of mindset can set the stage for your body to follow suit. Our thoughts have a powerful impact on how we feel physically. By convincing ourselves that we're bound to get sick, we might actually be lowering our immune response.

I believe that when things get difficult, that's when true entrepreneurs get ahead. They don't give up at the first sign of adversity. Instead, they see challenges as opportunities to grow stronger. This is when they push through and get what must get done, done! It's also when new systems and processes are developed, making it easier the next time obstacles arise.

The Power of Mindset 🧠

Our mindset doesn't just influence our productivity; it can also impact our physical well-being. Positive thinking isn't just a cliché—it's a tool. When we focus on wellness rather than illness, we empower our bodies to fight back more effectively. Instead of saying, "I always get sick," try reframing it to, "I'm taking steps to stay healthy and strong."

When I feel that itch in the back of my throat, I immediately take action to nip it in the bud. Here's what I do:

  1. Boost My Immune System: I start loading up on vitamins like Vitamin C and Zinc, and perhaps herbal remedies known to support immunity. Staying hydrated is key, so I increase my water intake, sometimes adding lemon or ginger for an extra kick.

  1. Rest Extra When I Can: Sleep is when the body heals and regenerates. I make it a point to go to bed earlier and allow myself to sleep in a bit if possible. Even short power naps during the day can make a significant difference.

  1. Listen to Health Meditations: I find guided meditations focused on healing and health to be incredibly beneficial. They help reduce stress, which in turn supports the immune system. Stress can weaken our body's defenses, so managing it is crucial.

  1. Play Overnight Health Affirmation Tracks: While I sleep, I play affirmation tracks that reinforce positive thoughts about health and wellness. This might sound unconventional to some, but I believe in the power of the subconscious mind to influence our physical state.

  1. Continue My Workouts: I might modify my workouts as needed. I feel that maintaining physical activity helps me recover quicker. Exercise boosts circulation and can help flush out toxins.

  1. Maintain a Healthy Diet: I focus on nutrient-rich foods like fruits, vegetables, and protein. I avoid processed foods and excessive sugar, which can suppress the immune system.

Whenever possible, I try to sleep it off. By being proactive, I'm typically able to kick something out of my body in just a few days.

Balancing Responsibility and Self-Care

Even with all that, I still get business done because there is no other choice. I cannot let my team down just because I feel a little tired. Responsibilities don't pause because we're under the weather, especially when others rely on us. This doesn't mean pushing myself to the brink but rather finding a balance between self-care and fulfilling obligations.

Preventive Measures

Beyond reacting when symptoms appear, I also invest in preventive measures throughout the year:

- Regular Exercise: Keeping the body strong and resilient helps fend off illnesses.

- Balanced Diet: Providing the nutrients needed to fight off infections.

- Stress Management: Practices like meditation, deep breathing exercises, and mindfulness keep stress levels low.

Sharing and Learning from Each Other 🤗

I'm curious: What are your hacks for a quick recovery from that itchy throat? Do you have any tried-and-true remedies or routines that help you bounce back quickly? Perhaps there's a herbal tea you swear by, a particular supplement that works wonders, or a unique practice that boosts your immunity.
